Our offshore Ft. Lauderdale deep sea fishing has been good as of late. We have had good action with Kingfish, Bonito, Dorado and Snappers. We also had a couple of Sailfish and Wahoo which have made for fun trips with our charters. Almost all our efforts have been directed at catching fish by trolling. Two deep planer lines along with short, long and center rigger surface baits are a good way to approach a days fishing in July. The deep planer rods continue to draw the most strikes as expected. We have also seen some Sailfish activity on these deeper rods. We like to fish a slightly larger strip bait on the braided line planer rods in summer with the Sails in mind. The larger bait seems to get a bit more attention from a hungry Sailfish. We miss a few Kingfish due to the bigger bait but we’re happy with the trade-off. When the Kings are biting they typically bite very well, well enough that we can catch them consistently despite the ones that get the best of us due to the larger baits. Some fancy sharks are offshore (Mako and Thresher) in addition to the reef sharks and smaller Hammerheads. Pictured is Katrina with her very first saltwater fish, a full sized “Little Tunny” which gave her a great fight. When these guys get to be as large as hers they can really pull line pound for pound as well as anything we catch and amaze freshwater anglers at their horsepower. Lots of bait schools just off the edge and all our fish seem really healthy and almost fat. That is good news. As long as the baitfish stay in the neighborhood our Ft. Lauderdale deep sea fishing should remain busy and smiling like Katrina. |
