Most Fort Lauderdale fishing customers and guests are usually people with little or no experience in what we do. Some have fished before, some even deep sea, others have never held a rod, much less caught anything. This was not the case with today’s customers.
As a birthday present for her husband, she presented the family with a fishing trip. He is a fisherman from Sweden and you could tell right away these folks wanted to experience all.
Our day was spent trolling. The deep lines were fairly active and those rods have a plainer on them with a long 100’ shock cord that must be brought in by hand. After watching the mate bring in the first few, our clients wanted their turn.
By the end of the trip, they were “wirering” their own fish (bringing that line in by hand), baiting their own hooks and setting the rods out as they had been instructed by the mate. With a nice catch of Kingfish, we headed back to the dock and were surprised once again when they preferred to clean their own fish.
We’ve always had our customers get as involved or uninvolved as they wished… But in over 30 years, I’ve never seen this.
They had a ball… and so did we.
