Ft. Lauderdale fishing is alive and well the last couple of days. Our weather has been erratic but the fishing has for the most part been quite good. Wahoo continue to be available in depths up to about 300 feet. We have caught several doubles and a couple of Wahoo hooked up at the same time is a blast. A lot of people associate the Wahoo with the Gulfstream which is often 7 to 10 miles offshore here, but we catch the bulk of ours either on or just outside of the reef about a mile to a mile and a half off the beach. There are some nice gaffer sized Mahi-Mahi in the same depth as well. We continue to do very little trolling and instead have been focusing our presentations on live bait. Bullet Bonito are again our most productive choice and we have cut back on our kite fishing as of late because the little Bonito have been the ticket for us. We are catching big fish and see no reason to change the program as of now. The kites are as ever ready to go, but if it works, why try to fix it. Big “Smoker” Kingfish continue to bite. Our best Sailfish catch was with the Myers boys when we managed five Sailfish out of six bites. We are anxiously awaiting the day with perfect north winds and north current and Sailfish tailing to the south into the current. We have had a few but the best is coming and is right around the corner. In the meantime we’ll keep after the “Stripers” (Wahoo), those Smoker Kingfish and the Mahi-Mahi. Winter is here and Ft. Lauderdale fishing is more exciting by the day. |
