Our Fort Lauderdale fishing trips are producing some nice sized Dolphin. We have had numerous fish weighing into the teens this past week. Our best days have been out in water from 400 to 600 feet, but we have caught them all the way inside of the near shore reefs as well. Find the bait and the fish are there, regardless of the depth of the water. Dolphin are quite possibly the most popular offshore fish here in South Florida as they are colorful, love to jump when hooked, and are excellent eating which puts them up at the top of the list for many local fishermen. Often a hungry Dolphin will pounce on anything that even resembles food, which also adds to their appeal. On occasion they can be quite finicky and particular, as when we are fishing on a full moon or when they are concentrating on a specific food source. A good example of this is a school of fish feeding on small flying fish. It can be tough to get them off those mini flyers and onto your baits. What tends to make those situations extra aggravating to many anglers is the fact that Dolphin are often very visible (when comparing them to other species such as Wahoo and Kings) as they move thru the area and seeing and not catching, or not catching many, when a lot of fish are obviously nearby isn’t much fun. We are taking most of them on trolled baits, but live baiting is productive as well when they are in the vicinity. Fort Lauderdale fishing trips are also producing some good sized Kingfish around as well, along with a few Sails and Wahoo, with the best action taking place just north of our inlet (Port Everglades). |
