 Our Fort Lauderdale Fishing charters continue to have Mahi-Mahi and Sailfish as the main species and they are still biting close to shore in water from 100 to 200 feet. Our best catches have been while live baiting with the kites as of late and this trend continues as trolling has basically offered Kings and an occasional Mahi-Mahi. We have had a couple of Sailfish try the baits while trolling but hooking them has proved difficult. Much easier with the live baits for sure. Our most recent charter was with Jeff and Tom and their wives on a six hour trip. Only the guys fished. These folks have known one another for years (and years) and are extremely close. Their plan was for Jeff to catch the first fish. Well the first fish was a Sailfish and it bit a live Goggle Eye fished in the kite and Tom was closest. One Sailfish released at boatside after 10 minutes for Tom. Tom does a lot of fishing in Missouri and really had a good eye for the water. Very little went on fish wish that he didn’t notice immediately. Fishing is fishing, we just have a bigger pond. The next fish was a nice Mahi-Mahi and Jeff got the honors on that one. Nice fish , but not the same even though Jeff was quite happy with this good sized fish. Well before it was over Jeff got his Sailfish and it was a big fish @ 89 inches. It ate a kite bait and I I hollered down at Tom, expecting he saw the fish take the kite bait as it stuck it’s dorsal fin at least a foot out of the water. Well ol’ Tom was in the salon getting a soda with his back turned at that moment and missed the bite. I knew he would have loved it but we all got plenty of visual enjoyment out of this fish as it danced all over the ocean for 20 minutes before being measured and released. Both Jeff, Tom and the girls had a great time on their Fort Lauderdale fishing charter. We did too. It’s nice when the fish cooperate. |
