Fort Lauderdale fishing is pretty good right now. In addition to catching Amberjacks with regularity on the deep wrecks we are catching an occasional Sailfish and Wahoo at the edges of the reef. But the big news has been the presence of some really good sized Kingfish which are biting in 70 to 120 feet of water and essentially right out front of our inlet. We took the dock pot this past week with a 35 pounder and are almost home with this fish, a nice 30 ½ pounder, leading the LP 2 by 2 ½ pounds.. While we have caught some nice ones on the live baits these two biggest fish we took by trolling with the deep lines. Go figure / it’s usually the other way around, which is more fish by trolling but bigger ones on the livies. Still good numbers of full grown Bonito swimming rapidly down the edge. Mahi-Mahi action is improving, but most fish are small. Hammerheads are now regularly showing in 350 feet as they migrate south, which is where we expect them to this time of be year, with many fish exceeding eight feet. |
