Deep Sea Fishing in Ft. Lauderdale and southeast Florida continues to produce fish with Mahi-Mahi still passing through our area. . We had a nice charter with Brian and Travis, and the charter was a birthday present to Brian from his wife, and she kept it a secret for a long while before telling him the news. They fished on the 5th. Nice day with diminishing sea conditions as the day wore on. The wind that has been here for what seems forever was strong early on and then dropped out considerably and the day was clear. It’s always fun, but today was on the slower side. Brian does quite a bit of fishing and he had a really good time enjoying the day, which was beautiful, and Travis’ company, despite the slower than normal fishing. As you can see by the picture we did catch fish and that is Travis with a nice Mahi-Mahi he caught on a deep line. Picked away at the Mahi but we really wanted to get a Sailfish or two. Try as we might we never had a crack at a Sail. Our live baits in the kites looked great but the Sails just weren’t biting. We finally got one to rise up on a long kite bait, and he was a good fish, but he refused to bite, approaching the bait several times but staying below the surface and only looking before fading off and leaving us hanging. Deep Sea fishing in Ft. Lauderdale is like fishing anywhere else when you can see them on the bait and they won’t bite they leave you with an empty feeling. All wasn’t lost. I joined Brian and Travis for a quick beer as they took the biggest Mahi- Mahi next door to the restaurant and had it cooked up for an early dinner. Blackened for Brian and deep fried for Travis. Good stuff, good guys, and a good time.
Tight lines, Capt. Rick
