Deep sea fishing here in Ft. Lauderdale has been a lot of fun the last couple of days. There are Sailfish moving through heading south and the majority of these fish are in 90 to 120 feet of water. We are catching good numbers of Kings in about the same depths. Mixed in with these Kings are more Bonito than you can count with multiple hook-ups the rule. We are talking big Bonito here and they will put a serious bend in the rod. We fish them at maximum drag settings (once we identify the bite as a Bonito) and they give a good pull. We have caught a couple of Wahoo as well on the deep lines so we are more cautious with our drag settings on those rods. No smiles if and when you break off a Wahoo. Decent AJ fishing out front, but the AJs are really stacked up and biting on the wrecks just to the south of our inlet. Live bait is great but the strike on a jig fished on a braided line with a short mono leader is wickedly strong. Dolphin remain very small but the numbers are up so at least the kids aboard can enjoy some colorful aerial action, even if they are pipsqueaks. |
