Our first stop today on our Deep Sea Charter fishing was at the sea buoy to try and catch some live bait. It always amazes me how much people enjoy this and why shouldn’t they? Very light tackle and some of these fish pull pretty hard for their size. The guys are having fun and finally a few Speedos show up and bite enough to get a few. Had we loaded up with them, dragging them from the riggers would have been fun… a few big Kings were around.
On to the troll, we fished and fished and began wondering if we were ever going to get a bite. Wrong color? Too fast or slow? Too deep? Too shallow? Finally we ran through a school of Bonito and got a couple hits. Then we caught a few Kings and missed a few more and things were looking up.
A quick turn off shore into deeper water got us a couple of small Blackfin Tuna, about the size of footballs and now we were starting to relax with some fish in the box.
The live bait we had caught was about to be used on a deep wreck. We actually have two right next to each other and as soon as we dropped our bait, we knew the fish were there, the bait was so nervous trying to get away from what was around him. Unfortunately, they were not biting and we left the wreck with no reward.
With some Tuna, Kings and Bonito in the box, we tried to entice a larger King with the live bait but that too proved futile. You just never know unless you try.
