July and August are as you are probably aware are historically two of the top three months for high temperatures (and flat calm ocean conditions). We enjoy very good fishing success in these months, but the old saying " the early bird gets the worm" holds true more often than not. We try to beat the heat and get out on the water early to take advantage of cooler morning temps.
Lots of full grown bonito are moving rapidly down the coast now. Kingfishing is strong with some nicer sized fish in the area. The over abundance of bonito can at times slow the kingfishing hook-ups down somewhat, but we move around to actually "avoid " the bonito on occasion to get a better shot at the kings. The bulk of the dolphin schools are found further offshore now with an all day charter being the way to go if your heart is set on these guys. 15 to 20 miles off the beach is typically(but not always) the norm.
Reef Sharks will be fairly available thru the end of August. Many days will have successful shark trips with most of these stocky sharks hooked directly on the bottom on dead bait presentations
Sailfish will be around , but not in any numbers. Mostly single solitary fish with only an occasional double being encountered.Larger Wahoo are taken near- shore especially once again on the full moons. Smaller Wahoo will regularly be taken off-shore in the vicinity of floating debris and current edges. Swordfish will be taken on the usual off-shore grounds by not only the traditional night drifts, but also in the daylight hours slightly further off-shore, offering opportunities for larger fish with baits fished directly on the bottom @ depths from 1500 to 1700 feet. VERY good success ratio in this new twist to an established fishery
