September has for the most part been good to those of us in the Fort Lauderdale charter fishing industry in regards to available species for us to target. The weather has been a different story altogether.
Kingfish have been available and very willing to bite on most days with the majority of the fish being caught inside of 150 feet and running 5 to 8 pounds, occasionally in the teens. We are able to limit out on most days we target them. Mutton Snapper have been and continue to bite well on inshore structure, especially around the full moon. The flip side is the Wahoo bite (typically strong on the full moon) has left a lot of us wondering where they are.
There have been a couple of good Sailfish days in the most part due to windy conditions. Our seasonal Bonito run has been on the slow side and erratic at best.
Amberjacks are on the deep Fort Lauderdale fishing wreck sites on most days. Dorado (Mai-Mai) have been in the offshore picture more than they were in August, but remain a difficult species on many days.
Swordfish are difficult to locate on most days, but if you can manage to get bit by making repeated moves, returning to the same area has resulted in more bites from apparent tight concentrations of fish.
Tight Lines, repeated bites.
